Cautions & Contraindications
- Xian Mao is contraindicated where there is yin deficiency fire or excess heat. Xian Mao is toxic and hot, therefore it is not recommended for long term use.
- Possible side effects are numbness or swelling of the tongue that can be relieved by taking Da Huang or Huang Qin
Toxicology Xian Mao has relatively low toxicity. No fatalities were observed with a loading dose of 150 grams/kg via the oral route in mice.
