Fresh Rehmannia is used in formulas that require yin tonifying benefits of Rehmannia but also require a cooling or anti-inflammatory effect. Fresh Rehmannia is often used in cases where a person is experiencing such warming symptoms as hot flashes. It is used less commonly than Prepared Rehmannia in tonic herbalism but can be very useful in cases of yin deficiency.
Raw Rehmannia treats heat invading the nutritive and blood levels which is characterized by delirium, dry mouth and tongue, high fever, mania, no thirst, restlessness and night fever sensations. Tongue is scarlet red in color.
Heat in the blood forces blood out of the vessels. Raw Rehmannia cools the blood keeping it in the vessels. Another application is for the manifestation of hot blood resulting in dermatological disorders such as itching, rashes and urticaria.
Fresh Rehmannia also nourishes yin and generates body fluids when heat is present that is characterized by fever and irritability or yin deficiency characterized by constipation, hot flashes, dry mouth and tongue with thirst, steaming bones sensations and night sweats.
